Melbourne company to expand smart lighting control to Europe

Latest News

MELBOURNE-based smart lighting control provider Organic Response has partnered up with Germany-based global energy company E.ON to provide wireless lighting control across Europe.

Organic Response is already cooperating with major lighting manufacturers in Europe. In this latest move, Organic Response will receive investment from E.ON, and enter into a commercialisation partnership which will expose Organic Response’s smart lighting control technology to a greater audience in Europe.

Organic Response uses Distributed Intelligence to turn buildings into collaborative and more occupant centric energy efficient ecosystems. The system has been evaluated, and found to reduce lighting energy consumption by as much as 80 percent.

A key part of Organic Response’s technology is its patented Autonomous Algorithm architecture, which is inspired by the way schooling fish move. This system allows for a robust and scalable solution, which requires no commissioning, yet is easy to use, sophisticated and affordable.

In terms of  hardware, Organic Response’s system works via sensor nodes, which are integrated into individual light fittings prior to delivery to the building site. These nodes respond to occupancy once they are connected to mains power.

The sensors share occupancy information with each other, allowing each light fitting to detect its distance from an occupant, and the light level required. Each light operates independently, but operating as part of a highly flexible swarm.

Because the nodes are installed along with the fittings, no additional wiring or commissioning is needed. The system can be further optimised by building management or tenants via a simple smartphone app.

E.ON hopes to leverage the Melbourne company’s advanced data analytics and connectivity to add value to its commercial building customers, by enabling them to achieve lasting reductions in their energy and operating costs.
