European airline trials LED and wearable technology in new uniforms

Latest News

EUROPEAN airline EasyJet is trialling new smart uniforms with wearable technology, including LEDs for increased visibility, and built-in microphones.

As part of its 20th year anniversary, EasyJet unveiled next-generation uniforms for its cabin crew and engineers designed in collaboration with London-based CuteCircuit.

LEDs on the cabin crews' jacket lapels display important information like flight numbers and destinations, while LEDs on the shoulders and hems provide additional lighting in the event of an emergency.

The engineers' jackets have light-up hoods and sleeves that illuminate work areas and keep both hands free for aircraft inspections and maintenance, along with reflective laser-cut decorations to aid visibility on the air field and built-in video cameras for remote diagnose of technical issues.

The engineers' outfits will also have an air quality sensor and barometer integrated, helping monitor work environments and allowing the airline to gather information and create a map of air quality in different cities.

CuteCircuit specialises in technology-based fashion. Previous work from this design house include LED-laden dresses for celebrities, as well as the world's first programmable t-shirt called tshirtOS.
