Samsung is looking to use Sony batteries in its Galaxy 8 smartphone, according to a report out of the Wall Street Journal.
This comes after the debacle last year with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s battery exploding and catching fire. Subsequent revelations have found that the battery exploded for two reasons – a design fault in the first instance, then a fault in the production process for the second.
The new battery will be Lithium-ion and Samsung hasn’t completely kept former suppliers out of the loop as it will keep two other long-term suppliers onboard including Amperex Technologies.
The new device will be launched in March and go on sale in April.
