FUJITSU Semiconductor will transfer ownership of its Iwate Plant to DENSO, with the transaction to be completed on 1 October 2012.
According to DENSO, advancements in automotive fuel efficiency and emissions technologies, and a greater need for advanced safety systems, means it needs to produce more diversified semiconductor components.
The acquisition of the plant from Fujitsu Semicondudctor will supplement DENSO's existing semiconductor plants, both located in Aichi, Japan. The plant is involved in front-end semiconductor manufacturing, including System LSI and microcontrollers.
Additionally, Fujitsu Semiconductor, in 2009, announced that it was pursuing a fab-lite business model, and thus the sale of its Iwate Plant fits into the strategy.
The products that are currently being made at the Iwate Plant will be produced at DENSO's new subsidiary and will continue to be supplied to customers through Fujitsu Semiconductor.
In addition, the new DENSO subsidiary will produce diversified and high-quality semiconductors to better meet increased demands from DENSO customers.
