CERAMIC Fuel Cells says its BlueGEN product has successfully demonstrated ultra high efficiency over an extreme operating range.
BlueGEN, a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell, delivers 15kW at an electrical efficiency of 60 percent or greater. Under an optimised operating regime, the BlueGEN achieves over 60 percent electrical efficiency from 1.5kW through to a reduced power output of nearly 0.8kW.
It also demonstrated electrical efficiencies greater than 50 percent down to 0.5kW – about 30 percent of its normal power output.
According to Ceramic Fuel Cells, the maintenance of efficiency over such a wide operating range are unmatched by any other comparable product, and the performance allows BlueGEN to be controlled at reduced power outputs without detriment, making it well-suited for use with renewable energy sources. Customers will be able to operate the BlueGEN product in applications where a flexible power output is required with outstanding efficiencies over the required operating regime
The optimised operating regime does not negatively impact the life of the BlueGEN unit, and was made possible with the technical expertise of the development team, together with the operating experience gained from over 6 million operating hours in the field.
The achievement also increases the potential of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell technology for delivering ultra efficient products over a wide output range , including micro-generation products down to 0.5kW, to meet the individual electricity demand of different types of buildings.
