Samsung is concentrating on hardware – specifically the camera – with its 2017 iteration of its flagship smartphone the Galaxy S8, according to ET News.
Those keen on taking selfies will be particularly happy as it plans to introduce an autofocus function for the front camera, which should increase the quality of the type of picture being taken. The hardware will be an encoder–type AF actuator, which assists with adjusting focus of lenses automatically. The main advantage of such an enhancement means that subjects of a picture will be seen more clearly than they would using the features of most current front-facing cameras.
It will be interesting to see what compromises have been made in the build of the device. Currently, most smartphone manufacturers are looking to pack more into a form factor without making devices bigger than necessary, while keeping it light and less bulky.
Although the device will first and foremost be a phone, this development lends itself to the belief that the phone aspect of a handset will soon become just another function of what will be a multi-purpose device – a super mini-computer.
As for Samsung’s latest device that will hit the shelves next year, here’s hoping they haven’t increased functionality while sacrificing battery fit and cause unwanted problems that plagued the Galaxy Note 7.
