Seeking to diversify its activities, Nemex Resources will invest in
an Australian-developed security technology that uses the eye as its
biometric mechanism.

The technology was invented by Stephen Mason and Dr Ed Sarver, and is
currently being developed and commercialised by Wavefront Biometric
Technologies.

The identity authentication solution identifies an individual based
on the pattern of light reflected back from the contour of the tear film
on the corneal surface of the eye. According to the inventors, this
corneal topography is unique to each person.

Additionally, moisture content in the eye means the tear film is
constantly changing. This allows the generation of a one-time
identification factor, providing not just positive identification of an
individual, but also authentication.

This guards against stolen biometric information, because the
technology will reject an exact match or copy, even while detecting and
accepting an individual’s unique biometric data. Applications include
banking, healthcare, military, security access, border control, as well
as control to access on mobile devices and online services.

Wavefront Biometric Technologies has already developed a desktop
device which delivers its technology, and is now in the process of
creating a hand-held platform which offers the same identity
authentication technology.

Nemex Resources’ investments will fund the final stages of product development.
