Prepare for wearable technology to reap its benefits, says report

IT departments and workplaces in the Asia-Pacific need to
prepare for wearable technology, according to new research from the ISACA.

The ISACA surveyed its members over 110 countries, and found
that 55% of its Asia Pacific members have plans now in place to leverage the
Internet of Things, or expect to create plans in the next 12 months. However,
almost half are not ready for wearable technology. 48% say their “bring
your own device” policy do not address wearables, and a further 28% do not
even have a BYOD policy in place.

The study also found that nearly half of ISACA members in
the Asia-Pacific region believe the benefits of the Internet of Things outweigh
the risks for individuals, while nearly a third believe the risks outweighs the
benefit for enterprises.

The most common issues around the Internet of Things regarded security threats, data privacy issues, decreasing levels of personal
privacy, and not knowing who has access to the information collected.

However, the respondents hope to benefit in the future from
lower costs, increased customer satisfaction, and greater efficiency as a
result of interconnected devices.

According to the ISACA, wearable technology in the
enterprise is expected to surge, as consumers in most regions continue to
adopt wearable devices. This means that enterprises need to be prepared for the
risks that these devices pose, while also leveraging the benefits.
