Latest News

INTEL is acquiring 1700 patents related to advanced wireless technologies for US $375 million in cash.

The patents are being acquired from various businesses of InterDigital, which develops and licenses wireless technologies widely used in mobile devices, including WCDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, 3G, LTE and 4G.

According to Intel, the acquires portfolio of patents cover 3G, LTE and 802.11 wireless technologies. These patents will support its strategic investments in the mobile segment of the market, possibly providing additional defences for the company in the litigation-happy sector.

InterDigital says the 1700 patents in question are only a “small portion” of its overall portfolio. The transaction will be completed in Q3 2012.
