Interconnects for CSIRO’s new high performance computing cluster

CSIRO has selected Mellanox Technologies’ end-to-end FDR InfiniBand solution for their new accelerated computing cluster.

The SwitchX SX6025 switches, ConenctX-3 adapters, Unified Fabric Manager and cables will be used as interconnects in the high density cluster, which will be based on Intel “Sandy Bridge” and NVIDIA GPU technology.

Mellanox says its interconnect solutions were chosen due to its scalability, low power consumption, and high-efficiency data handling, which is accelerated with proprietary technologies.

CSIRO is currently building its new High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster with the new Intel architecture, which necessitated an interconnect upgrade for better performance, scalability and ROI.

Mellanox will provide CSIRO with InfiniBand technology and capabilities of PCI-Express 3.0 for the new compute intensive cluster.

The new CSIRO HPC Cluster was awarded to XENON Systems, which is a partner of Mellanox specialising in the deployment of High Performance Computing solutions to leading Australian and New Zealand research organisations.
