HP is selling off its PC business, and will also discontinue operations for its webOS-based devices such as the TouchPad and webOS phones.
The personal systems group within HP may be spun off under an acquisition deal with Autonomy Corporation. The tech company has also decided to terminate the webOS-based division.
webOS, which HP acquired from its Palm buyout for US$1.2 million, would have been a competitor for Windows Phone, Android and Apple, but has apparently been squeezed out of the market by the smartphone/tablet titans, with the HP TouchPad tablet devices reportedly seeing lacklustre sales.
