Another step toward commercialised dye-sensitised solar cells

AUSTRALIA-based Dyesol says it is another step closer to commercialising its technology with the completion of the second milestone in its joint project with CSIRO.

The Dyesol/CSIRO research and development program is being funded by CSIRO’s Australian Growth Partnership.

Intended as a three-stage, two year project, the joint steering committee has agreed that the Stage 2 milestone has been delivered.

This milestone focused on the design and creation of novel structures starting with the engineering of key components (ligands) and their uses in generating novel dyes to enhance the performance and stability of dye sensitised cell (DSC) systems.

The project scientists successfully optimised the synthetic chemistries to generate quantities of key precursor materials for ligands and novel Ruthenium based dyes.

According to Dyesol, the current budget and resourcing situation indicates Stage 3 and the project will be successfully completed.

In the third and final stage, Dyesol and CSIRO scientists will collaborate to advance and expand on the preceding research work, with CSIRO evaluating the materials in DSC devices and Dyesol focusing on up-scaling the materials developed in Stage 2.
